In particular, students develop their understanding of how the character is introduced, before understanding how perceptions of him change across the novel. Students then consider Lee’s purposes for Boo’s inclusion, considering social and historical context. -The lesson follows a step-by-step learning journey, in which children learn through: -Reading selected extracts from the text and answering comprehension questions about boo’s introduction at the start of the novel; -Tracking how Scout’s perception of Boo changes over the course of the novel; -Understanding how the character of Boo aids Lee in getting across her key messages about society, considering social and historical context; -Peer assessing each other’s learning attempts. In this engaging lesson, students develop their understanding of the ten commandments. They particularly consider what Jesus communicated as ‘the two greatest commandments’ (‘Love God’ and ‘Love thy Neighbour’). In the past, I have used this lesson with children from across Key Stage 2 with minor adaptations for age - the key learning is aligned with curriculum expectations for RE, and also the content prescribed by most diocese regions. This fun and original collective worship session assists children in understanding the value of being creative in all of their endeavours, through: Understanding what creativity is, and recognising why it is such an important skill; Recognising God’s creativity and understanding how creativity is a trait within everyone (including themselves); Observing some amazing examples of the successes that creativity can catalyse; Learning strategies to demonstrate creativity in their own lives. This worship session is tried and tested, and has always been really well received in the past. The slides are visually engaging and well-presented, and the subject matter is tailored to the interests and needs of young people. The session also includes a short video and discussion focusing on the Genesis section of the bible detailing God’s creation of the world and its creatures. The session also includes a fun interactive activity, a wonderful, thought-provoking video about the importance of creation, and various discussion activities regarding how to show creation in different areas of their own lives. This engaging and interesting lesson enables students to develop the knowledge and skills needed to analyse the structural features of previously unseen poems. In particular, they define and understand each of the key structural devices, practice identifying them in poems and analyse their effectiveness upon the reader. The lesson utilises a range of tasks, that require students to be both independent and collaborative learners. It follows this learning journey: -Defining and exemplifying each of the structural features through a group card-sorting activity; -Identifying each of the structural features in two poems through an exploratory task; -Understanding the writer’s intentions and the effect on the reader of various structural techniques; -Applying their understanding of the structural features and their effect to a comparison between two related poems; -Peer-evaluating their learning in the lesson.
